NOTICE SUMMARY
Official notice is hereby given that due to the recent resignation of the elected County Surveyor, a vacancy exists in the Office of the County Surveyor for Scotts Bluff County, Nebraska. Pursuant to Nebraska Revised Statute § 32-567(2), the Scotts Bluff County Board of Commissioners intends to appoint a qualified individual to fill this vacancy.
The individual appointed will serve as County Surveyor effective from the date of qualification and oath until a successor is duly elected at the next general election and qualifies for the office according to law.
REQUIRED STATUTORY QUALIFICATIONS
To be considered for this appointment, the applicant must strictly meet the following criteria under Nebraska law:
- Licensure: Must hold an active, valid license as a Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) issued by the Nebraska Board of Examiners for Land Surveyors.
- Elector Status: Must be a qualified elector residing within (or willing to establish statutory compliance for) Scotts Bluff County, Nebraska.
- Bonding: Must be capable of securing an official county official bond as required by state statutes.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
The appointed interim Surveyor will execute all statutory duties of the office under Chapter 23 of the Nebraska Revised Statutes, including:
- Surveying, establishing, and restoring lost or degraded Public Land Survey System (PLSS) section corners and quarter corners.
- Reviewing, indexing, and filing all subdivision plats, plats of survey, and official maps prior to public recording.
- Providing professional boundary and geographic consultations to the County Board of Commissioners, Planning Commission, and County Highway Department.
COMPENSATION & STRUCTURE
Because Scotts Bluff County evaluates this position within its respective population tier, the structure of this interim role (part-time salary or standard professional services/hourly contract framework) and its direct compensation will be negotiated by the County Board at the time of appointment.
