The mission of SBCDC is to provide our detainees, professionals and public with a safe, secure and well-managed facility. Our detainees will be treated with respect, human dignity and will be offered programs to foster reintegration to society. We will continuously strive to make a difference in the lives of those we serve as governed by the applicable standards.

About the Facility

The Scotts Bluff County Detention Center is the 5th largest county detention facility in Nebraska located in Gering, NE holding male and female detainees. It is the largest county detention facility west of Grand Island. It was built in 2007 with 186 beds. Renovations were completed in 2018 adding 100 beds bringing the total to 286. It holds detainees for surrounding municipal agencies and various other counties serving the panhandle of Nebraska. It holds a contract with the United States Marshal’s Service holding federal inmates for North Dakota, South Dakota, Wyoming, Nebraska, and Colorado. Approximately 75 certified corrections officers serve at the detention center working 4 days a week with rotating 12-hour shifts. Sheriff Overman has been leading the detention center since 2019. Prior to 2019, the facility had a civilian director who reported to a Board of Corrections.

Frequently Asked Questions

• Bond is accepted 24/7. During normal office hours, check in with the receptionist to post your bond. Outside of normal business hours, press the intercom button in the waiting area and an officer will assist you. A valid driver’s license must be presented when posting bond.
• Approved items that may be brought in for detainees are prescription medication, prescription eyeglasses, and currency. No other items including wedding bands will be accepted.
• All clothing and basic hygiene products will be provided by SBCDC.
• Visitors may leave money Monday-Friday between the hours of 8AM-5PM excluding weekends and holidays.
